How to Keep a Rental Dress Beautiful During the Event

Handle closures gently, lift the hem when you move, and never apply chemicals yourself—three habits that protect a rental dress all day.

A rental dress is best protected through small habits: dress in a clean space, take care around food, lift the hem when moving and stop at the first sign of a problem. You do not need to remove stains or repair details yourself. Prevent further damage and contact Rent by Châu.

Before you put the dress on

Finish makeup, hair and fragrance first, then wash your hands before dressing. Use a clean towel if the dress needs to be placed down briefly. Remove rings, bracelets and sharp accessories while dressing so they do not catch lace, mesh or raised flowers.

Notice the dress construction

Corset mermaid model A084 has lace, mesh chiffon and angel sleeves; keep the sleeves away from door handles, table edges and claw-set jewellery. Model A088 has raised flowers and a flared mesh skirt, so hold a stable fabric area rather than pulling the decoration. One-shoulder model A091 has a draped panel and embellishment; watch the shoulder when adding a bag or outer layer.

While sitting and moving

Smooth the skirt gently forward or to the side before sitting. For a long dress, lift the hem only as much as needed on stairs and ask a companion for help when appropriate. Avoid stepping backwards onto the skirt or allowing chair wheels and car doors to catch the fabric.

Around food and drinks

Place a napkin over your lap and keep glasses and sauces away from the bodice. At a small table, check the edge and any candles before sitting. Do not spray fragrance, hairspray or oil-based products directly onto the dress.

If liquid or a mark appears

Do not rub, wring or apply hot water. Blot excess liquid lightly with a clean cloth, photograph the area and contact Rent by Châu for guidance. Avoid stain remover, alcohol, soap and a hair dryer, as different surfaces react differently.

If a zip or decoration has a problem

Stop when a zip catches; hold close to the zip and do not pull the fabric. If a thread loosens or a flower or stone begins to detach, do not cut, sew or glue it. Keep any loose piece in a small bag, take a photograph and message the shop.

After the event

Remove the dress in a clean, dry and well-lit place. Check the hem, zip, ties and accessories, then hang or place it as instructed. Do not wash, iron, steam or leave it in direct sun. Keep every included piece together for the return.

Save this short checklist

  • Finish hair and makeup before dressing.

  • Avoid sharp edges, food, drinks and oily products.

  • Lift the hem on stairs and when entering a car.

  • For an incident: stop, photograph and contact the shop.

  • Do not wash, repair, cut or glue.

If this is your first rental, read the first-time dress rental guide for the full sequence.
