Before you arrive
A standing mirror photo tells you how a dress looks for one second. A useful fitting also answers whether you can sit, lift your arms, walk, and wear your accessories without snagging the fabric. Bring this checklist so the decision comes from real movement. Measure bust, waist and hips in centimetres. Bring the bra, shoes and accessories you plan to use, plus two or three models to compare. Avoid heavy extra layers that change the measurements and the feeling.
Elodie A013 lists S/M/L with an over-bust waist measurement guidance of under 66/70/76 respectively. Becky A003 size M instead says V1 under 86. Record the exact model, size and measurement guidance; do not photograph a dress and guess the details later.
Five movements to test
Test five basics: sit and stand, take a long step or stairs, raise both arms, turn to see the back, then take a deep natural breath. For the A084 corset mermaid in size S (over-bust waist under 66), also test stride length, hem clearance, fairy sleeves and breathing. A waist measurement guidance does not confirm every other measurement.
Take front, side, back and walking photos from the same angle and in the same light. Skip filters that change colour or proportions. Review three questions: does it suit the setting, stay stable while moving, and feel like you?
Look for bra lines, a hem changed by your shoes, and jewellery that catches lace or tulle. Remove accessories before changing dresses. Do not pin or alter a rental; ask the shop how to handle ties, zips and detachable details. After the fitting, choose from notes rather than memory. Read how to measure for dress rental and the dress rental pickup checklist, then send your final choice to Rent by Châu for a live check.
Prepare a short try-on list
Choose two or three models for different reasons: one long and one short, or one flared and one fitted. Write what each should prove. Trying five nearly identical dresses can leave you tired before the strongest option appears.
A bra can change the bust and neckline; shapewear can change the feeling at the waist and hips. Wear only the base layer you can comfortably use on the event day. For a strappy, cup or corset dress, ask the shop for a suitable approach instead of taping or pinning it yourself.
Read the measurement guidance first
A013 shows that each size of one model can have a different limit. A003 focuses on V1, while A084 lists the waist but also has a corset and mermaid structure. Identify which measurement the data supports and which parts still need a fitting. Keep the word “under”: it is a limit to confirm, not a rounded target.
Breathe, talk, lift your arms and bend slightly. The neckline should stay in place, armholes should not pinch, straps should not dig in, and the zip should not pull into deep wrinkles. Take a back photo. If you adjust the bodice after every movement, the fit is not stable.
Sit for at least ten minutes. Your waist should allow normal breathing and your hips should let you stand and step. A waist measurement guidance does not confirm hip room. Do not hold your stomach in to pass a fitting; the event will be lived in a natural body.
Check the hem with your shoes
Bring the heel height you will actually wear, then walk straight, turn and take a step. For a short dress, check the hem while sitting and lifting your arms. For a long dress, check whether it drags; the A084 mermaid also needs a comfortable opening for your stride. Do not change shoes after fitting and forget to reassess the hem.
Record 10–20 seconds of walking, sitting and standing. Video reveals how fabric settles better than a still image. Keep the camera around waist height and use no filter. Watch once for silhouette and once for natural movement, without judging your body frame by frame.
Style the real accessories
Carry a bag with what you normally bring, wear the planned jewellery and approximate hairstyle. Check whether clasps catch lace. With a halter or one-shoulder neckline, a large necklace can compete with the design. Remove all accessories before changing dresses.
| Criterion | Question | |---|---| | Setting | Does it suit the dress code and venue? | | Stability | Do neckline, straps and zip hold while moving? | | Comfort | Can you sit and breathe for a while? | | Movement | Are hem, steps and stairs manageable? | | Styling | Do your real shoes and bag work? | Give each item 1–5 and add one reason. A dress with a high total still fails if it cannot handle the main activity.
Ask before leaving the fitting
Confirm the model, size, measurement guidance, dressing and tie instructions, included accessories, package and how to check the live schedule. Write it in your phone. If you will decide later, ask about the current hold conditions instead of assuming the date is reserved.
Switch if breathing or sitting is difficult, the neckline slips, the hem fights the venue, the ties need maximum tension, the base layer cannot be hidden, or an essential accessory catches. A change of silhouette is safer than temporary pins or tape on a rental.
Wait a little, then review notes, photos and video under the same conditions. Delete photos that make you focus only on judging your body; keep the ones that show fit and movement. Choose the dress that removes the most worry from the event day.

Write down your favourite model, a backup, the size you tried and any question still open. Preserve the exact fit-note wording for waist or bust rather than turning it into a general judgement. Also record the shoes used to test the hem, because another pair can change the proportions.
Keep the checklist gentle
The fitting is meant to make the decision lighter, not to find one dress that wins every category. If a dress matches the dress code but makes breathing, sitting or tie adjustments difficult, treat that as useful data and switch. If two models work, choose the one that suits your schedule and the feeling you want to carry. Send the model, size and date to Rent by Châu for the live schedule check. A good fitting does not have to be long. Once fit, movement, dress code and timing are clear, record the decision and let the shop confirm the live details.
